Too White Teeth

Of course whitening teeth has been a cosmetic fad for several years now. But have you noticed that some people have gone way too far with whitening their teeth? They are practically glowing in the dark bright. I don’t find that attractive at all – it is actually very distracting to see someone on TV or in the movies with teeth so bright you need shades.

My dentist suggested a whitening but I turned him down. I think he just wanted to hit me up for some extra money and I am already in debt for the root canal and crown that he did for me. I can’t imagine paying more money for my teeth any time soon. It just costs to fucking much to go to the dentist anymore.

One of the whitening toothpaste commercials does have a good point. Their slogan is, “if you are not whitening – you are yellowing.” Well, I hate to admit it, but that’s so true. I looked in the mirror and noticed that my teeth are looking yellow and that maybe I should find a way to get them a little more white. I guess next time I see my dentist I should ask him the price of the whitening in his office and see if I can negotiate a way to get it done.

Fuck I’m Hungry

Woke up too early this morning. I don’t usually even want any breakfast until I’ve been up and awake for a couple of hours. So when I got up too early it threw off my whole fucking schedule. My inner clock is messed up bad.

First thing I did was make a pot of coffee so I could function. Once the coffee was made, I took the dog out for his potty break and then took a shower. Totally skipped the Pop Tart or muffin and left the house. Now I’m still 2 hours from lunch break and I’m fucking starving!

If there’s nothing left in the break kitchen cabinets I am tempted to order pizza delivery. I can order that early and have it delivered a little early and grab a piece of hot pizza when it gets here so I don’t have to waste time getting in my car and driving somewhere, getting in line and then waiting for it to be made and passed through a window so I can fucking eat!

I guess I’ll have to make do with a snack from the vending machine. Maybe someone left a packet of instant oatmeal or instant soup in the kitchen. Anything would be better than this sick hungry feeling in my stomach. If I don’t eat something before lunch I’m going to end up with a migraine.

Allergies are Kicking My Booty

There are a certain kind of tree around here that I had never noticed back in Virginia where I grew up that are giving me allergy problems every Spring. In fact, back in Virginia I don’t remember having much trouble with allergies my entire childhood. We all played outdoors as much as possible and I almost never got sick.

My mom suffered from hayfever really badly but thank goodness none of us kids seem to have inherited that. I know that she would spend two long moths sneezing and coughing and being miserable while the ragweed bloomed and pollenated the area.

Eventually, my mom got shots that helped cure her of the ragweed allergies, but now that I live in Tennessee, something n the air makes me sneeze every spring for two, sometimes three, weeks. I notice it always happens when the Redbud trees are starting to bloom. I wonder if that is an allergy in itself or does something else bloom at the same time as the Redbuds that is really causing me to be suffering?

Study suggests heart risk from calcium supplements

Wed Jan 16, 9:24 AM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Older women who take calcium supplements to maintain bone strength may have an increased risk of heart attack, researchers in New Zealand said on Tuesday.

The researchers cautioned that they do not consider their findings the definitive word on the subject, but said the higher heart attack risk they saw merits further study.

“This effect could outweigh any benefits on bone from calcium supplements,” researchers led by Ian Reid of the University of Auckland wrote in the British Medical Journal.

Many women take calcium supplements to try to prevent osteoporosis, a condition in which bones become weak and brittle, leading to fractures.

The study involved 1,471 healthy post-menopausal women, average age 74, who already had participated in a study on the effects of calcium on bone density and fracture rates. Of them, 732 were given a daily calcium supplement and 739 were given a placebo. They were followed for five years.

Heart attacks were more common in the women taking the calcium supplements, with 31 women who took supplements experiencing a heart attack compared to 21 women who got a placebo, the researchers said.

The researchers noted that previous research had suggested that taking calcium supplements might protect against vascular disease by lowering levels of bad cholesterol in the blood.

They said that because calcium supplements raise blood calcium levels, this possibly accelerates the formation of deposits in the arteries that could lead to heart attack.

The new results “are not conclusive but suggest that high calcium intakes might have an adverse effect on vascular health,” the researchers wrote.

“In the meantime this potentially detrimental effect should be balanced against the likely benefits of calcium on bone, particularly in elderly women,” they wrote.

I must assume that this will affect many women, I hope the word gets out about this to the women everywhere who are taking supplements. It seems that many people think more is always better, and I look forward to additional research about supplements and all of the factors that should be weighed in for those people taking them and how much they should take. I also hope that we get more easy to record information about the amounts of vitamins and minerals that we get in our diets which tend to change daily, and therefore give us more information about how we should adjust our supplement intake.
