Verizon Wireless is going to start to allow ads on its mobile phones starting early next year, limiting what content can be advertised by advertisers and the placements of ads they run ,in order to generate more revenue.which is estimated to be in the billions by 2010. So it got me thinking that an ad free provider or some sort of Tivo like device will be advertised or invented in the near future for mobile web surfers, since consumers from radio to television have shown they love ad free entertainment and are willing to pay or switch services in order to keep it that way.Ashley must have been reading my mind when she wrote this line in her blog “as if viewing a 3 inch screen and surfing the web from my mobile phone was’nt already slow enough compared to surfing and viewing it from my desktop and flat screen is, they had to go and make doanloading mobile web content slower and the viewing space smaller just in order to make some more money makes me mad.” So it made me think if the developemnt of software written in order to allow users to surf the mobile web ad free would be worth writing for an open source project ? Maybe if enough users complain about the ads and it costs Verizon Wireless more to deal with consumer complaints and loss of subscriptions due to the ads then it makes from them then they will just go away and such a code will never need to be written or service promoted but with so much money to be made I think it is only a matter of time before such code is written or service offered. Which makes me wonder if we will then start to see advertisments in the actual text or video we view on the mobile web in order to combat such software, an example of this is would be many television shows now have alot more product placement from advertisers in the shows themselves because of devices like Tivo an example of this would be the Star of the show drinking a certain type of beverage or wearing a certain clothing designer and the other co-stars commenting on the use of such product in a way that makes the product desirable to the viewer.Would be a terrible shame in my opinon to be reading the sports news in the future and nested in the article is something like this ” Derrick Jeter wearing his Puma cleats hit a three run homer to beat the Braves to cliched a spot for the New York Yankess in the world series ” ofcourse notice the ad for the cleats and the city of New York because of the line not mentioning the city Atlanta, just for the purposes of advertising makes me wonder if the loss of information and the adding of unneeded information is the future of information and entertainment. But enough wondering for me today I am more interested in reading what you the reader has to write abou this issue, so please chime in with your thoughts and ideas on the subjects above.
The Internet juggernaut Google is holding talks with Orange, the telecommunications operator, about a multi-billion dollar tie-up for mobile telephone users to search the web. From the press some big wigs have flown out to the Valley to further talk in detaila bout the possible venture between France Telecom giant Orange and Google.
ZDNet reports the mobile operator said Thursday that it’s teaming with cell phone maker Nokia and financial institutions Citigroup and MasterCard Worldwide to trial new phones that have MasterCard PayPass contactless payment capability.
The trial, which is expected to last three to six months, will help the companies evaluate the speed and convenience of the “tap and go” payments using mobile phones.
A group of Citi MasterCard cardholders with Cingular Wireless accounts have already been selected to participate in the trial. The participants will receive a Nokia handset with “near-field communication” (NFC) technology and the MasterCard PayPass payment function built in. Using the phone, trial participants will be able to make purchases wherever MasterCard’s PayPass is accepted by simply holding their phone near the card reader. The payment is then deducted from the cell phone subscriber’s account.
MasterCard PayPass service is already being tested in New York City subway stations using plastic cards issued by Citibank. The cards can also be used at 1,000 Coca-Cola vending machines in Philadelphia. Other merchants such as McDonald’s and AMC movie theaters also accept the card, and in turn will accept the PayPass phones.
